Sayenko Kharenko advises EBRD on up to EUR 80 million loan to Ukreximbank in support of “green” investments in Ukraine

Sayenko Kharenko has acted as Ukrainian legal counsel to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the provision of a four-year syndicated loan of up to EUR 80 million to JSC “The State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine” (Ukreximbank). The EBRD provides up to EUR 40 million on its own account, with up to EUR 40 million provided by foreign participants.

The financing will support renewable energy and energy efficiency investments in projects of Ukrainian companies that are compliant with the best industry standards and the EBRD’s requirements in terms of energy generation capacity, carbon emissions, and air pollution.

The EBRD is the largest international financial investor in Ukraine. Since the start of its operations in the country in 1993, the Bank has made a cumulative commitment of almost EUR 13.6 billion across some 432 projects in Ukraine. Ukreximbank is a 100% state-owned bank and one of the major operators in the Ukrainian banking market.

Sayenko Kharenko’s team was led by counsel Igor Lozenko and included associate Vira Pankiv and junior associate Oleksandra Maksymenko.
