Sayenko Kharenko advises on the merger of the world’s largest shipping companies

Sayenko Kharenko acted as Ukrainian legal counsel in connection with the merger of Hapag-Lloyd AG, a German largest container shipping line, and Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV), a Chilean shipping company.

The deal was signed on 16 April 2014 and will be closed later this year as soon as the change of control is approved by the regulatory authorities.

Hapag-Lloyd AG is a transportation company comprising a cargo container shipping line and Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores is the largest shipping company in Latin America.  Following the merger, the new Hapag-Lloyd will rank among the four largest liner shipping companies in the world.

Sayenko Kharenko’s scope of work included due diligence and general advice on Ukrainian law matters.

The firm’s team for the transaction included counsel Leonid Antonenko, associate Oleksandr Bevz and was led by partner Vladimir Sayenko.
