Sayenko Kharenko promotes Olexander Droug, Anzhela Makhinova and Sergiy Smirnov to the counsel position

Sayenko Kharenko is pleased to announce that effective from the 8th of April, 2016 the firm has appointed three new counsels from among the senior lawyers: Olexander Droug, Anzhela Makhinova and Sergiy Smirnov.

Commenting on the promotions, co-managing partner Vladimir Sayenko said: “These individuals have established themselves as leaders within their practices. We are pleased to recognise their accomplishments and valuable contribution to the firm’s success.”

The following lawyers were promoted to counsel:

Olexander Droug has more than nine years of experience in advising clients on international commercial arbitration and commercial litigation, as well as debt restructuring. His practice covers all stages of dispute resolution proceedings. Olexander has participated in a number complex multi-jurisdictional proceedings involving Ukraine, UK, Cyprus, BVI, Switzerland, the Netherlands and other fora, as well as arbitrations under the rules of major international institutions (LCIA, ICC, SCC), CIS-based institutions and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. In addition, Mr. Droug advises clients on obtaining and implementing interim relief, including in support of arbitration proceedings and litigation, as well as on recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and foreign court judgments in Ukraine. Olexander has represented clients in the proceedings relating to banking, finance, securities, M&A, shareholders, trade, telecommunication, construction, aviation, product liability, as well as sports-related disputes.

Anzhela Makhinova has ten years of experience in international trade. She is particularly adept in trade remedy proceedings (anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguards) both in Ukraine and abroad. Her in-depth knowledge and understanding of the clients’ needs enables Anzhela to provide solutions that adapt to the client’s business and elaborate new services, i.e. calculation of dumping margin in the anti-dumping investigations according to the methodologies employed by different investigating authorities (e.g., the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, the Eurasian Economic Commission). She also has a wealth of experience advising clients on all other aspects of international trade, including cross-border trade transactions and drafting different types of contracts, WTO regulations, specifically dispute settlement proceedings, as well as different regulatory issues of such heavily regulated industries as pharmaceuticals, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, and oil products industries. Ms. Makhinova is a country expert on franchising for the International Distribution Institute.

Sergiy Smirnov has more than 13-year experience of practicing law and focuses on complex dispute resolution procedures, litigation, corporate law, corporate governance and criminal law matters. He has a significant track record of representing clients in all stages of dispute resolution proceedings and routinely advises ondebt collection issues and restructuring matters. These matters span a variety of industries, including agricultural, banking, real estate and construction, insurance, and other industries. His cutting-edge experience in complex cases with multiple claims and the parties from different jurisdictions allows the firm to handle clients’ most critical litigation issues, administrative and other disputes with public authorities and local government bodies.
