Mykyta Polatayko, associate and IT group coordinator at Sayenko Kharenko, spoke at the meeting of the Working Groups on protection of copyright and related rights and protection of industrial property rights in Ukraine (Working Groups), which was held on 23 June in the premises of the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine.
The participants of the meeting discussed the following issues: information on the channel of use of intellectual property – Internet; problems and suggestions of the placement and use of IP objects in today's media space; proposals to the draft law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Protection of Copyright and Related Rights on the Internet" (Draft Law).
Mykyta Polatayko presented draft laws for introduction of general licenses in the legislative field, providing new opportunities for owners of trademark and service mark certificates to protect their rights by re-registering domain names on the trademarks and services, in which their mark or similar designation is illegally used.
Mykyta also offered to establish a new mechanism of fixing violations in the network, the introduction of regulations related to disputes on ICANN domain names into the national legislation and the abolition of compulsory registration of franchise agreements (franchise).
