Sayenko Kharenko’s partner Anzhela Makhinova took part in a comprehensive study “Revision of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States. Analysis of trade and economic consequences and proposals for the negotiating position of Ukraine” as an expert on international trade at the Ukraine Investment & Trade Facilitation Center (ITFC). As part of this study, Anzhela analyzed all tariff and non-tariff requirements in detail; rules of origin; issues related to public procurement, state aid, problems with transit through the EU countries; dispute settlements proceeding; application of trade protection measures, Green Deal, ACAA Agreement, SPS etc. Based on the results of the analysis, the expert identified the relevant aspects problematic for the Ukrainian business and also proposed options for possible changes.
Anzhela Makhinova comments on her participation in the project: “The signing of the Association Agreement with the EU by Ukraine was a landmark event and a turning point in the history of the country. However, there is no doubt that in order to gain more privileges from the free trade area with the EU, certain provisions of the Agreement shall be revised to be more beneficial for Ukraine and its economy. I hope that the study and the recommendations based on its results will lay the foundation for this procedure.”
