Sayenko Kharenko advised EBRD on USD 250 million subordinated loan to Ukreximbank
Sayenko Kharenko acted as a Ukrainian legal counsel to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on USD 250 million subordinated loan to the State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine (Ukreximbank), the largest-ever single investment in Ukraine. This 10-year Tier II loan will boost Ukreximbank’s capital base and facilitate its continued lending to Ukrainian enterprises, promoting high standards of corporate governance and robust lending procedures.
Part of the loan, up to USD 50 million, will be used to finance energy efficiency projects. Another USD 50 million will be allocated to export-oriented Ukrainian companies. The transaction is expected to improve the overall market confidence in the banking sector. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is the biggest financial investor in Ukraine. As of November 2008, it had committed over €3.97 billion through 163 projects. The State Export-Import Bank of Ukraine is 100% state-owned bank, one of the major operators in the Ukrainian banking market.
